It can be done, but you're probably better off just to trade it in. Depending on year and which transmission you have, as well as which one you're putting in, you may have to get the engine ECM and other modules reflashed, may even have to replace the entire engine ECM or repin the entire harness, then there's the matter of driveshaft length, and if you have a transfer case, the location of it may need to be changed to accommodate the different length of the transmission etc.
