Metronidazole (Flagyl) and Penicillin, Tetracycline or other antibiotics are frequently prescribed together for Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth. Expect GI side effects, but from personal experience SIBO can be so terrible (like Crohn's) that there is psychological relief in knowing the drug side effects mean the regime is working. Intestinal infections such as SIBO are not permanently curable, but treatable with this combination of drugs (designed to treat both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria), and will need to be repeated when symptoms reappear. Yogurt or probiotic supplements help restore normal gastrointestinal flora and are essential when taking this combination, as it will kill off the "good bugs" too. ∙ 11y agoNO. One should not take amoxicillin and tetracycline together. Tetracycline decreases the effectiveness of amoxicillin by pharmacodynamic antagonism. This is a fairly serious problem.
