Morphine is a pain killer. ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory. Since most pain is caused by inflammation, ibuprofen is often considered a pain killer but really it isn't. For those who don't believe it, see an article in Pain Magazine, 1988 Aug;34(2):117-22 where ibuprofen is shown to have the same effect on non inflammatory pain as a placebo.

Both drugs can be taken together. My doctor even recommended to me that should the morphine sulfate tablets (10mg) he prescribed me be insufficient, I should take a supplementary dose of ibuprofen.

I'm currently recovering from an MRSA abcess in my abdomen. At first I thought it was a boil, and I was taking ibuprofin for the pain. It did nothing at all. After an alarming amount of growth over night, I went to the ER and had it sliced open, and began antibiotic treatment.

The first night back from the doc I only used the morphine tablet; It helped but it could have been much better. The second time, I threw in 600mg of ibuprofen with the dosage because the first morphine tablet had given me a headache and the doc had also told me to use that much if the morphing by itself didn't work; I couldn't feel even the slightest bit of pain.

If I ever end up in the ER with a morphing drip, I will be asking for ipuprofen at the same time. My personal experience is that they complement each other wonderfully.

As for potential liver damage, your doctor will know how much of each you can take at the same time without damaging the liver. It will depend on your personal history, genetics, and the dosages of each drug. I don't know about morphine, but ibuprofen is one of the safest drugs available if you are not allergic to it. There are no long term affects from an ibuprofen overdose. Chronic usage at a lower dose may be a different story.

Aspirin and morphine are a generally safe combination. A) aspirin is an anti-inflammatory, so it attacks the physical aspects of the pain and B) morphine acts on the central nervous system to literally block your ability to feel as much pain.

Yes, apparently the painkilling properties of morphine are increased somewhat and the drowsiness it can cause decreases. That said, you should talk to your doctor before mixing these medications. There are possibly other pre-existing conditions that could cause serious complications.

Calling a doctor or a pharmacist instead of relying on answers given in a semi-unreliable internet forum may be your safest and smartest option.

Is buprenorphine the same as morphine?

It all depends on what exactly your allergic to. If you are allergic to all opiates, than NO, you cannot take methadone, but if you are allergic to a certain chemical in morphine than you can take methadone because it is a different type of opiate and it is synthetic. But I would consult your physician before taking another opiate like methadone if you are allergic to morphine. But for example, my friend was allergic to "Percocet" because of the acetaminophen that is mixed in with the pill, but he was able to take oxycontin, which is the same drug as is used in percocet, because the acetaminophen was absent.
