yes
Yes, however, they both take different intake manifolds, so you will have to transfer the intake, as well.
Yes, I just changed a 1985 305CI intake to a new GM 350CI long block crate motor.
The 85 intake manifold won't work with the 90 heads, so you will need to purchase an aftermarket intake if you want to use a carburetor or use a 87 to 95 intake if you want to change over to TBI.
in the back of the intake maniford on the passenger side
most any small block GM motor, maybe even a big block but im sure u'll rip that transmission out
Underneath the intake manifold bolted to the motor.
yes but most 96 engines had vortec heads and intake manifold which are way better and if its fuel injected you might have some driveability problems it will still run but might not run smoothly
no, the bolt pattern on the small block Chevy intake manifold changed in '87 to the vortec head design, but if it doesnt have the centerbolt valve covers, then it will.
intake manifold is DIFFERENT for models 1985 and 1988
no the reason no is 88 and later heads they changed the pitch of the inside four bolts that hold the intake manifold on. It wont bolt and and it will not seal if yo do find a way to force it.
It is not possible to bore a 305 out to 327ci. You could by a stroker kit, bore your block .040 over and have 336ci. Use a good set of heads (Port and Polish) with 1.6 roller rockers, single plan intake (port and polish intake runners) with a spacer and Holley 650 carb, a Comp XE 268 cam or equal (advace it for an extra 10-20 HP). Headers 2.5 exhaust an upgraded ignition system. Try for a 9.1-9.8 compretion ratio. With this combo I promise that you will get at 325-425 HP depending on what heads you use. Convert it all to a Roller system and gain about another 20 HP. Make sure that everything in the bottom end is new with complete balancing. 327 heads on 305 block: Port, Polish, 3 or 5 angle valve Job (valves must be 1.94 on intake side) completely rebuild them and use .550 springs. Use small dome pistons matched to the heads cumbustion chamber cc's. If you use these heads and all the above mention parts, you should have no less than 380 HP naturally aspirated.
Yes you can upgrade to a 350 but only if it is an Oldsmobile 350 and you will need to use small block olds toronado intake from a 307 so you will have hood clearance-you may need to enlarge ports in intake to match 350 head ports but probably not much. You can use your 307 heads on the 350 but I would put bigger valves in those heads before I used them with a 350 and porting would not hurt if you want much performance. The Olds 350 will have a lot more power stock than the 307
