You can. The Seagate hard drives connect from USB. There is a FreeAgent Go now using Mac interface. I believe it is 320 GB. The price is probably around $100.

Simply plug your external drive into your Mac using a supported port, drag-and-drop files from your Mac onto the external disk. Note that for drives formatted using FAT32, you won't be able to transfer files larger than 4GB. You also won't be able to use drives formatted using NTFS unless you have the appropriate third-party drivers installed.

If you do have drive data backups, simply copy all your desired files back from your backups. But, if there is no any data backup on other places, you'd better keep this formatted drive away from anything else and download drive data recovery software to get everything back, like iCare Data Recovery Free, Recuva, EaseUS Data Recovery, etc.Firstly, stop using this formatted hard drive and leave it alone temporarily.Secondly, Plunge it to computer and download formatted drive data recovery software (like: freeware-fix.blogspot.com/2013/02/external-hard-disk-format-recovery.html) to scan this drive and find all possible files back.Thirdly, save all restored drive files on a different storage device in case of farther data loss. You should remember that:Never save new stuffs on this formatted drive before rescuing everything back.Never save restored stuffs on the same formatted drive in case of data recovery failures.Never forget to make drive data backups before formatting or deletion in the future.Farther detailed data recovery information could be found here:ucfix.com/data-recovery/external-hard-disk-drive-format-recovery.htmlblog4mark.blogspot.com/2012/10/how-to-deal-with-raw-drive.html

If you have format your computer only c drive now you want some files of your documents how to get back that files?

If your files were on that C: drive, then they are pretty much gone. There are programs that will attempt recovery of formatted drives but if anything at all has been written to the drive you can forget about it. If the files were on a different physical drive and you really only formatted C: then the files should still be present and available for access.

Why does ot say cant transfer to new volume when you plugg in your external harddrive?

Assuming you're talking about transferring files from a Mac to an external hard drive (since this is the Apple / Mac section), here is one possible scenario: If the external hard drive is NTFS formatted, then the Mac will only be able to read the contents of the drive, and will not be able to write to it. To remedy such a situation, back up all data from the external hard drive, launch Disk Utility on the Mac, select the hard drive, and format it as 'Windows / MS-DOS' (FAT 32) format (if you'd like to keep the external hard drive Windows compatible), or format it as 'Mac OS Extended' if you're only going to be using it on Macs.

How does an exterior hard drive work?

Think of an external hard drive like a normal hard drive working outside your computer, they work very much in the same way. Normally (unless you are using a SCSI hard drive), they can be connected to your computer via a Firewire or USB connection. If you have a key-drive(aka USB memory stick),they work like a miniature external hard drive in the sense that they store date in an external format; an external hard drive is just like a large key-drive. With both a keydrive and an external hard drive, you simply connect it to your computer, and access its files. When you want to access your internal hard drive, you go to MyComputer and then select the C: drive; The external hard drive is a similar process, you select it's icon (located either on the desktop or MyComputer) and then you can access its files like a normal hard drive. You can drag files out of it onto your desktop, or alternatively, drag files into it to transfer files from your computer.
