NO, the terminals are in an unusual configuration, and many batteries won't meet wires. - Go to Battery shop or Walmartfor the correct one. (- I have tried many Walmart batteries and they are very good, as are all their auto oils and fluids under their brand name. )
Remove one of the battery post cabes from the battery for 5 munutes. Now learn how to retrain the computer because it is reset and upset also at this time.

The one hooked to the negative battery post. The positive post is slightly larger.
i was driving with my radio on an fog lights that put on myself an all of a sudden the car just cut completely shut off. i pulled it over an got out to open the hood an check the battery post. i check both and the negtive post began sparking, then brief moment after that smoke came up from the area were the started is located. Now there is no power no where. the battery still has some juice but no lights nothing. what could this be on a 1999 ford taurus sho 3.2 liter.

No it uses a top post battery because the terminal ends don't fit the two.
Ford wants $220.00 for the battery cable harness and do not even have it available. I replaced mine with a battery terminal with a post on top with wing nut available at most auto parts stores. I cut all the wires from old terminal and installed ends on each wire that crimp on and will fit on the post of the new terminal. Cost around $8.00 for everything to replace positive side.
