If you have a 3g ipod touch with voice memos and speaker you will not need anything, if you have a 2g ipod touch that has just a speaker you will need a 3.5mm jack adaptable mic, if you have a 1g ipod touch without a speaker and mic you will need a 3.5mm jack adaptable headset with mic and speaker.

No. But if you have an iPod touch you can download VOIP applications(voice over internet protocal) such as Talkatone(free), textfree with voice(semi-free), or skype(free skype to skype but needs paid subscription or credit for other phones) and use the app to make the calls if you have a 2nd or 3rd generation ipod(plus the iphone headset with mic) or a 4th generation ipod touch(has built in mic). It will still not work as well as a cell phone as it is really buggy, but if you primarily just text and use the phone occassionally than it will work well.
