ALMOST anything can be done, as long as it's with respect. If you're not Catholic and just want to wear it because you think it's nice as a design, my personal opinion is why not? As long as you use it with respect (in other words, don't wear it upside down or something, or taunt people with it) I feel it shouldn't offend anyone because only people who know you, know you're not Catholic, and just explain you like the style. But remember, it is a religious symbol, and if you're not Catholic, don't you think you might be in a contradiction? If you don't have any issues with that, then go right ahead. I'm not Catholic but I wear one sometimes, because there are some that are fabulously made. But always, when I wear it, it's with respect for those who put a religious value to it.

Wearing the Rosary with the respect and devotion that it signifies keeps it close to the heart and can demonstrate a Marian devotion. However it is not in and of itself a talisman or ward. Though it does incorporate the Holy symbol of the crucifix

Answer from a CatholicSome people find it very offensive if you are not wearing a religious habit of which the rosary on the belt is part. If you are not Catholic and you are just wearing them for decoration, then, yes, it is extremely offensive to a fervent Catholic to see the Mother of God's holy rosary treated like a fashion accessory by someone who has no more interest in praying with it and doesn't even know what it is for.

Not quite. At the end of each prayer, it is sunnah, or recommended, to say tasbeeh, or "remembrance". This consists of saying "subhannallah" ("praises be to God"), "alhamdulillah" ("thanks be to God"), and "allahu akbar" ("God is the greatest") 33 times each. To keep track, some Muslims use prayer beads.

Usually, there are 33 small beads and one large bead. You start at the bead next to the large bead and work your way around. When you reach the large bead, you move to the next expression.

Another way of keeping track is the segments on each finger. Your thumb has 2, and your index, middle, and ring fingers each have 3. That's a total of 11 sections (not including your pinky). You can say each expression once per section 3 times (3*11 = 33). You can go a step further and keep track of the sets of 11 on your left hand as you say them on the right.

Yes, a rosary may be worn as jewelry and it is quite fashionable today...and not for the right reasons. Most people who wear them are not Catholics; and to them there is no religious value in the "chain" around there necks.

But to a Catholic, who dons the Rosary, there is a meaning: one may have a great love of Mary and the Rosary and want to proclaim it to the world or one may just want to make a statement like "I am Catholic!"

The Rosary, if it is blessed, is a sacramental and should be treated with respect. As such it can also be worn as one would a scapular or a Sacred Heart medal. It is difficult for some to understand this custom of wearing a rosary; but it is customary in some countries south of the boarder. But, rest assured that just like anything that is fashionable it soon fades.

However, the positive side to this, is people are making the rosary a commonplace thing and getting the notion out of peoples heads that is some "evil" Catholic thing.

So I say, we who pray the Rosary, should get ours out and wear them too! Right out in public - on our fingers! Why not pray it in public while walking or on public transportation. Try it once and you shell never be afraid to pray the rosary in public again. I did this once after a priest, in a very convincing homily, told us not to hide our Catholicism and proclaim our faith in public. One of the examples he gave us was that somebody asked him why he wears his collar all the time. He answered that it is my way of proclaiming the faith; then he added, you can do this to by praying the rosary while you're walking.

The first time I did this I was on public transportation I got my rosary to pray and had it hidden from the public. Then after the first decade I found the strength to raise it up and pray it where everyone can see it. Then I had to change trains and there was standing room only...I kept praying... and no one looked at me cross-eyed or even had a negative comment - and this was in San Francisco. So, I say get out your rosaries and march on proclaiming your faith...you'll be fashionable too!

They are worn when you pray in Church or at Home, you Count the prayers on them by moving the beads.

.

Catholic AnswerPrayer beads are usually only worn after you have made religious profession as a sister or a friar, they are then worn from the belt of your habit. Everyone else carries them in their pocket so as not to make a display of them.
