Yes it can run but not very well. The oxygen sensor reports live information about the engine's air/fuel mixture to the powertrain control module. This information is used primarily to help calculate fuel delivery to the engine, which changes continuously while it is running. If the engine is running lean, the powertrain control module will sense this from the oxygen sensor's signal and increase the air/fuel mixture to the engine. Conversely, just the opposite occurs when the engine begins to run rich. On OBDII-equipped vehicles, the sensors are also used to help determine the efficiency of the catalytic converter. The powertrain control module does this by comparing the signal of the sensor located at the inlet of the catalytic converter with the signal of the sensor located at the outlet of the converter. Remove the O2 sensor and you can experience poor gas mileage, a failed emissions test, "rotten-eggs" smell from the exhaust, poor acceleration and more. Install a new O2 sensor.
When an O2 sensor is bad your car will not run efficiently. You will use more gas than you would normally use on a trip.
o2 sensor.
I have a magna Executive with a o2 sensor. I have been having problems with ever since I had to replace the main computer under the dash. I keep getting chech engine wring lights on my dash. Since then I have had the engine checked and the o2 sensor repalced only thave to problem come back to me again and again and going back to the dealer. So I disconnected the sensor from the engine to the computer and the engine still starts and I get excelleration and the car runs, though it does run sluggish and feels fuel strvations is there, but yes you can run the car without the o2 sensor especially in a Magna TR....
for obd1 or obd2? usaully it just means that the o2 sensor is bad and not getting accurate readings therefore making your car run either lean or rich
Mass air flow sensor, O2 sensor
I believe you are seeing your Oxygen or 'O2' sensor. It measures the ratio of oxygen in the exhaust and sends the info to your car's computer while you are driving. If the O2 sensor is bad your car can run poorly. It is one of the more important sensors on you car.
Not normally. Usually it willl cause a high idle and lean condition. Your car needs more fuel to run rich... i.e. MAF Sensor or O2 sensor causing out of whack Fuel trims.
could be numerous things, like a faulty oxygen sensor/a.k.a O2 sensor, a faulty mass air flow sensor. it all depends on what year make and model of vehicle we are talking about
depends on the kind of car
Depending on which sensor is bad the engine may run like crap and the check engine light should be on.
The bank 2 pre cat O2 sensor is in the rear exhaust manifold, the bank2 post cat O2 sensor is under the car after the catalytic converter, P/S nest to transmission.
Yes, the Taurus can run without the catalytic converter--it is not necessarily good for the engine, but disconnecting it will cause it to fail emissions testing. If you've seen the Honda Civics running around smoking like a factory, this is caused by no electrolytic converter. The O2 sensor could be in the exhaust pipe between the manifold and converter.
