Yes they have that right, but you also have a right to turn them down if they asking you to come in to work, the Texas work law states that the employer have to call of inform you within 24 hours of your off day.
That depends are you a minority?
No US employer can ever compel you to work for free. ALL work, without exception, must be paid. The employer can change your schedule, but must pay for your work.
If you missed your first day of work and you haven't done your employer the courtesy of calling to say why you weren't going to show up, I'd predict that you won't need to worry about getting the note since you won't have the job.
Yes, your employer can deny you a day off. They generally schedule their employees based on the needs of their business.
An employer cannot force anyone to do anything. You can resign, or they can decide to terminate you.
After completing the project, we can call it a day and head home.
Yes, a employer can hire you to work two hours a day. If you are scheduled to work and they tell you that there is no work and send you home, but you have not worked two hours . . . they still have to pay you for a minimum of two hours of work or half of your scheduled work shift. Some people are only scheduled an arrival time and not a specific leave time. If you volunteer to go home, then this does not apply. Bear in mind, I am in California. I am not certain if this law only applies to my state . . . Sorry for the long response, but at least you will understand why it is okay to work only two hours.
If you get a paid day for jury duty you have to give your employer the money you receive from the court for your jury service. If you aren't paid by your employer for that day you loose a day of work and pay, but keep the jury pay.
That can depend on company policy. If you were not scheduled to work on a particular day, and then a co-worker called in sick, then your employer may call you and request that you fill in for the one that was originally scheduled to work that day. But you are not legally required to go to work if it is not your scheduled day to work. But keep in mind, you may need someone to fill in for you one day, so it could be in your best interest to comply with your boss's request to go in to work on your day off.
It depends if you have an employment contract or not. If not (and sometimes even then) you can be fired for any reason as you are an "employee at will' and it is at the companies discretion as to if they want to continue your employment.
It is a corruption of the much more common 'to call it a day'.If you were doing a day's work and completed the required work early, it makes sense to call it a day.
"Let's call it a day?" is said when someone suggests packing up working for the day and going home.
