sounds like an immobilizer fault or the battery in your key is faulty
Sounds like it has to do with the micro-chip in the key. Starts for about 3 seconds and dies. In 1999 Ford installed a micro-chip in the ignition key for Anti-theft purposes. If the chip isn't there, or is malfunctioning, the vehicle starts briefly and dies.
Coolant temp sensor
get a 1966 one there better!
Possibly a bad alternator or battery.
More info. What kind of car ?
5 seconds seems about the same as my 2001Has the fuel filter been changed lately?See "Related Questions" below for more
If it starts again after awhile only to do the same thing, the fuel filter is probably clogged.
replace your crank sensor....or when it dies dump cold water on it to see if it starts again
just for any one who ever reads this and is having the same problem i tell you i tried just about everything that my boyfriend and i could think of. the car sat in the garadge for about 2 months. like it says it would start and then die after just a few seconds. so long story short try the mass air flow sensor. its a really simple fix
VATS security system went bad, or your fuel pump is dieing. Most likely the security problem. on mine it ran a few seconds and died, but while it ran it ran fine.
my 86 did something like that and it turned out to be my oil pump was going out but it could be either the fuel pump or the oil pump as far as i know but i'd check ur ignition system as well ANSWER i would also check the fuel pressure regulator and injectors just to be safe
