Broken homes is a Sunday-school ( and derisive euphemism) for broken-up or divorced families. it was always treated with disdain, like Communism or something like that, and never discussed objectively- unlike even a lure for pornography. When I was a kid the term was tossed around loosely by Sunday school instructors, including one Brother Joe who did double duty as a camp counselor- he was always sounding off about them. I thought it referred ( logical enough) to structural damage caused by, say fires, flooding, weather damage- I was wrong- those are accidental.
