Metabolism!
The answer is really METABOLISM :)
Burning a material converts chemical energy into thermal energy.
A cell releases energy from food in the process of cellular respiration which is in the presence of oxygen, or fermentation which is in the absence of oxygen.
It is a nuclear change not a chemical one. The energy for the yield originates from the nuclei of the atoms and the electrons (where chemical energy resides) are uninvolved in the process.
Endothermic Reaction.... (Just to help you out someone helped me with this question and I GOT IT CORRECT!)
Metabolism
Metabolism
Exothermic reactions
When a fuel is burned, it is a combustion reaction. This reaction breaks apart chemical bonds and releases the energy stored in them.
Respiration releases energy from food by a complex series of chemical reaction.
The general term for a chemical reaction that releases heat is an exothermic reaction. The energy released is called enthalpy.A reaction that releases energy is called an exothermic reaction.
It is called cellular respiration (oxidation of carbohydrates), and the process is known as metabolism.
An exothermic reaction is a chemical reaction that releases energy in the form of light or heat. It is the opposite of an endothermic reaction
All chemical reactions that release energy in the form of heat are called exothermic reactions.

An exothermic reaction is a chemical reaction that releases energy in the form of light or heat. It is the opposite of an endothermic reaction. Expressed in a chemical equation:reactants → products + energy
