Disassemble the door, unplug motor, unbolt remove and install new motor. Be careful not to break the plastic on door during disassembly. If there are rivets holding the motor in there are a few ways to remove them: you can get a punch and put the point in the center of the rivet and hit with hammer until rivet breaks or you can cut an X thru the center of rivet and beat it with screwdriver and hammer. To install you can just use a nut and bolt but make sure it does not interfere with the window operation.

Unfortunately you can't just change the motor. You have to buy and replace the whole assembly including the window. Its a rip-off but the motor, ratchet, arms and window comes as one replacement assembly.

To change the motor in the 1996 Chevy Cavalier driver's side window, first pry the interior door panel from the door. Then, remove the motor by first disconnecting the vehicle's battery and then disconnecting the wiring to the motor. You can then remove the screws that hold the motor in place.
It is on the lower passenger side under the dash/glovebox. Remove the cover over the blower, remove 4 bolts and blower will drop out.
Remove the window regulator and motor from the door as an assembly. Drill out rivets that hold motor to regulator and replace motor. Regulator needs to be riveted back into door for reassembly
