My guess is either a vaccuume line or an electrical connection has been knocked off. Changing the timing belt should not cause the tranny to die. Go through and look for any possible loose connections. Tranny could be dead, but that would be related to age not timing belt.
it doesnt have one, it is an electronic speedometer
No, A 91 to a 96 transmission will fit a 94 Escort.
this uses ford transmission fluid NOT gear oil in the manual transmission. Filler is on the top of the Transmission and is NOT meant to be changed for the life of the Car. I currently have several of these and even at 350,000 have not changed the fluid.

1997 escort tranny's are a breed of their own you must replace it with a 1997 transmission.
You don't. It has a sealed transmission. If you think something is wrong with tranny you should take it to someone. Hopefully you don't need a new transmission.
There is no transmission oil temperature sensor on a 1995 Ford Escort.
Yes, the clutch does go on a manual transmission 94 Escort.
