Depending on the year of the truck, some of the new models the engine light will turn on if you did not close your gaz tank cap tight( three clicks)... Either way engine light will not turn off until you "reset" the warning lights usually with a computer from your garage or dealer. They will be able to read the warning code and tell you exactly what went wrong.
if that doesn't work another thing that would defiantly be worth checking into would be your catalytic converter could be partially plugged
