Yes it was. The KGC (Knights of the Golden Cirlce) were a Southren extremsit group and they believed if they assassinated Abraham Lincoln they war would continue. They wanted the South (Confederates) to win. However, the USA mourned the loss of their president and all ideas of continuing the war were lost.
