A malfunction has been detected that effects the emission control system It could be anything from the gas cap not installed properly , poor quality fuel , a sensor problem . Did you get gas recently ? As long as there aren't any other warning signs like low oil pressure , overheating etc , use the vehicle 3 or 4 times and see if the check engine light turns off by itself , if the light does not turn off then have it scanned for any trouble codes to help diagnose and then repair the problem
