Assuming that by 'turning over' you mean that it is turning over fast enough to start, this sounds like it could be one of two overall problems; One being a lack of fuel (or possibly too much fuel) getting to the combustion chambers, the other being a fault in the ignition system. With a fuel system problem, possible culprits might be:empty fuel tank (don't just trust your gauge, physically check and make sure by adding some fuel or knocking on the tank).plugged fuel filter.plugged, pinched, or broken fuel lines.faulty fuel pump.no power to the fuel pump (wiring to the fuel pump is faulty).faulty fuel injectors, (although not likely all injectors at the same time). With an ignition system problem, possible culprits might be:bad spark plugs.faulty spark plug wires.faulty ignition coil pack or ignition coils (depending on engine).faulty power or control wires to ignition coil.faulty wiring to fuel injectors.faulty engine computer.
There are a couple reasons that your escort will crank but not start. The first is that the engine is getting no fuel. This could be caused by the fuel pump failing or a block in the line. If you turn your key forward to the click right before it turns over, and the fuel pump is operating, you should be able to hear a faint humming coming from your gas tank or somewhere between the fuel tank and engine. Another reason could be that it is getting no spark. This could be caused by a faulty wire or a faulty ignition coil, ingnition relay, or loose distributor cap. Another reason your car would crank but not start would be no compression. Caused by a leaky gasket or head being cracked.
Check for faulty high tension wire from distributor to the external coil first. Check that the fuel filter isn't plugged. It could also be the distributor control module or a faulty timing chain.
Assuming it is a 302 or 351W with EFI, it could be,a restricted/damaged catalytic converter, a restriction in the exhaust system, a restricted/dirty fuel filter, a faulty fuel pump, a faulty fuel pressure regulator,
Squirt a little starting fluid into the air filter box and try to start it. If you get a response you may have another faulty fuel pump. You could also do a fuel pressure test. It should have 60 to 66 psi. You could also have a faulty fuel pressure regulator. Most commonly it is the fuel pump. I am assuming the fuel filter has been changed.
faulty injectors, faulty pump, faulty regulator. make sure that fuel really isn't getting into the throttle body (just enough to wet the plates). are the plates dry when turning the engine over? if so, check that fuel pressure is in spec. the pump can be tested for operation by connecting to a 12v dc source, battery or otherwise. other than that, good luck.
Because the fuel pump is faulty
Quite a few posibillities Lack of fuel Low battery charge , engine not turning over fast enough Faulty starter motor Faulty engine earth Air lock in fuel system Clogged fuel filter Immoboliser fault Timing belt broken.
It could be out of gas or low energy in the battery for the car.Can also be fuel pump has failed or fuse has blown. Fuel pump relay may also be defective. Find out what you are missing. Fuel or spark.
Is there gas in it? Fuel tank empty . Fault in the carburetor and fuel injection system . Battery terminals connections loose or corroded , battery discharged ( eng rotates slowly ) . Fuel pump faulty . Excessive moisture on , or damage to ignition components . Worn, faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs , Broken ,loose or disconnected wiring in the starting circuit , ignition coil or faulty coil . Low cylinder compression , Faulty distributor pick-up coil or ignition module ?
you should have fuel injection if this is the case either the injectors are bad or the circuit that controls the injectors are faulty
Incorrect fuel pressure (faulty fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator). Plugged up fuel filter. Restricted exhaust (plugged catalytic converter).
A common reason is the fuel pump relay. Turn on the ignition - you should hear the fuel pump run for about 1 second. If not, could be the fuel pump relay. Could be lots of other things as well you know!
The most common reason for an engine to turn over but not start is a lack of fuel. The fuel tank might be empty or the fuel pump might not be working.
The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. There should be a schrader valve ( like a tire valve) on a line behind the throttle body. If you depress it, there should be fuel pressure there. If not, then yes, it could be a plugged fuel filter or faulty pump. I hope this helps you. Mark
Engines need fuel, compression and spark to run. You believe you have fuel so check for spark next. A faulty crank sensor could be one reason you have no spark. If you have spark, have a compression test done. The timing chain/belt may have broken if you have no compression.
This generally happens when you release the pressure from the gas peddle. The fuel pump may be out or a problem with the injectors. The air conditioner switch may also be faulty leading to the heated seats over heating. Its a 6.0POS which means it a could be anything really!
Could this be a fuel filter or fuel pump problm?
Cooling fan could be faulty or radiator could be clogged or have slight leaks in it .
Could be several reasons, low on coolant (leak in the system), stuck thermostat, faulty cooling fan(s), bad head gasket, cracked head, faulty fan clutch, faulty water pump, missing fan shroud,
Does it turn over real free and easy? Then could be a broken timing belt. If not that then spark and fuel. Spark issues could be a bad coil, ignition module and fuel issues could be bad fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator etc. Hope this helps.
Could be fuel pump or fuel pump relay.
Only fuel. Somehow it is getting in there. Fuel metering needs to be looked over.
It could be a number of things; anything from a faulty starter, to a misaligned or faulty neutral safety switch. You need to isolate and test to find out WHICH of the myriad of components involved could be faulty. If you don't know how to do that, perhaps it would be best to take it to a professional.
it could be the fuel filter is pluged or the fuel pump is out
