no the wiring harness in your 92 model truck will not fit correctly into the newer dash. to replace the dash you are going to have to change over the wiring harness, both doors, and the steering column.

As far as I understand, metal flacks (shavings) fall into grease around the switch and complete the circut. You need to replace the switch or you could try to dis-asemble and clean(dont recomend).....
