Restricting marriage in all States to be between a man and a woman
The last amendment in the constitution was ratified on May 7th 1992, it was the 27th Amendment was originally proposed on September 25, 1789, as an article in the original Bill of Rights. It did not pass the required number of states with the articles we now know as the first ten amendments. It sat, unratified and with no expiration date, in constitutional limbo, for more than 80 years when Ohio ratified it to protest a congressional pay hike; no other states followed Ohio's lead, however. Again it languished, for more than 100 years. In 1978, Wyoming ratified the amendment, but there was again, no follow-up by the remaining states. Then, in the early 1980's, Gregory Watson, an aide to a Texas legislator, took up the proposed amendment's cause. From 1983 to 1992, the requisite number of states ratified the amendment, and it was declared ratified on May 7, 1992 (74,003 days).
As of 2014, there are 27 currently ratified amendments to the US Constitution. There are no amendments that are presently awaiting ratification.

It was first proposed more than 200 years before it was ratified. Several states passed similar laws making legislative pay raises inapplicable to current or past legislators. It was ratified in 1992, but COLA's (cost of living adjustments) have never been legally challenged under the amendment. It was one of the twelve amendments submitted under the "Bill of Rights" in 1790, and one of two that were not ratified then.
They are called Amendments.

The original California Constitution was adopted in November 1849 before California became a state. The current Constitution was ratified May 7, 1879. It is a very long document of 110 pages. This is because of the voter initiatives that if passed become constitutional amendments.
I tried counting when i looked through the document and found 44 amendments. Not sure if this is right. The amendments are found at the end of each section that has been amended. I just counted those.
