The aperture is like the black part of are eye, I do not know if you have ever noticed, but, when you go in to a dark place the black dot gets bigger, when you go to a place with a lot of light the black dot gets smaller, same for the camera. Also, you did not mention ISO, that is not a part of the camera but just a setting. The higher the ISO the more sensitive the shutter is to light, but you also get more noise with high ISO.
