Scholars find the headcount or census and the enumerated list of names in Genesis chapter 46 perplexing. The number of names does not agree with the headcount given at the end of the census, where (to complicate things further) two different numbers appear in the summing up.

Verse 46:15 says that Jacob's sons and daughters from Leah number 33, but counting Dinah, 34 names have been mentioned. Two of them, Judah's sons Er and Onan, are said to have died in the land of Canaan, which should leave 32 who did accompany Jacob to Egypt.

The enumerated sons of Zilpah = 16; of Rachel (counting Joseph, Mannessah and Ephraim) = 14; and of Bilhah = 7. So 32+16+14+7=69. Subtracting Joseph, Mannessah and Ephraim, we get 66 who actually accompanied Jacob (+ Jacob = 67).

The text says that all the souls of the house of Jacob in Egypt were 70, while those on the trip to Egypt totalled 66.

Why did egypt go to war with israel in 1966?

Egypt was not at war with Israel (in a de facto sense) in 1966. Egypt was at war with Israel de jure because it did not acknowledge its Right to Exist. Egypt was preparing to invade Israel in late 1966 and early 1967. It is very likely that Egypt would have invaded in late 1967, if Israel did not launch a preventative strike to cripple the Egyptian Air Force, beginning the Six Day War.

What are some reasons why Egypt and Israel were enemies?

This question should be asked of Syria and Israel. I think this is the historical roots of conflicts and hostilities. I predict that when I go next time officials of the old countries of the region. And replaced with younger ones to be on all these problems and hostilities.
