Years before Lincoln became president, the Rothschild s wanted to weaken the government in order to create a privately owned banking system where they would be the only ones who could print paper money, loan it out and collect the interest. Their plan was to in debt the nation to them forever. The Rothschilds created rancor and hate between the North and the South. Slavery was the tool used to create this animosity. They told people in the North that slavery was immoral, while telling the people in the South that they had the right of self-determination. They promoted the war.

At the time each individual bank could print their own paper money. In the mean time, the prospect of war was just wonderful for the Rothschilds. All nations need money to pay their bills for the cost of war. The bankers wanted to loan them the money with interest. They would get a percentage of the total cost of the war. (a tactic still used today)

Unfortunately for the Rothchilds, both the North and the South found their initial interest rates too high and refused to borrow money. The Rothschilds failed to make the war loans and their plan to make the two new nations indebted to them forever-- ended.

The hate they helped to create continued to fester in the hearts of men. This hate gave Lincoln an excuse to start a war to end the southern aristocracy. Lincoln hated the southern rich, their arrogant life style and presumed superiority. The wealthiest man in the south was Joseph Davis. Lincoln absolutely hated Joseph Davis.

Lincoln deliberately started the war by sending an armada to resupply Fort Sumter. This large navel force was just for show, Lincoln had no plans to resupply Fort Sumter. When the South saw the approaching armada, they felt the need to fire on the fort. By firing on Fort Sumter, the south was tricked into starting the civil war.

No, he kept it going by getting himself re-elected in 1864. Otherwise, the South would have gained its independence and all the Union casualties would have been in vain.

Lincoln's General-in-Chief, Ulysses Grant, finally brought it to a successful close by ending the system of prisoner-exchange, so the Confederates were bound to run out of manpower.

He was President of the United States at the time. He wasn't in any of the battles, but he did occasioanlly visit battlefields after the fighting had ended as he did at Gettysburg.

His major objective in the war was to preserve the union (which he did).

Lincoln did not cause the Civil War. The original authors of the Constitution foresaw conflict over slavery. The first Constitutional Crisis over the issue of secession came in 1828, when South Carolina attempted to rebel against the Federal Government and President Jackson threatened to use the military to maintain the Union. The Civil War first became violent in 1854 when pro- and anti-slavery elements fought a was in Kansas and Missouri. This was called the "Bleeding Kansas" conflict. This means people were killing each other over the issue approximately 16 years before Lincoln was even elected President. What we call the Civil War started in April, 1861. Lincoln did not cause the war, he just inherited a problem which had been brewing for many, many decades.

He did and he didn't. His goal to preserve the Union was a success. Unfortunately, he paid a huge price. Even before his death, by the spring of 1865 he was looking old and haggard. Historians say that his last day on earth was one of the best Lincoln had ever had. In fact his wife told a friend she had never seen him so upbeat and happy. But it didn't last long.

Lincoln's victory in the 1860 General Election was the trigger - he would not allow any new slave-states, so the South would always be outvoted in Congress if they stayed in the Union.

But the 'cause of the Civil War' is a much bigger and more complex question, still being debated to this day.

When newly-elected, he tried to prevent the war by considering the Crittenden Compromise.

But he rejected it because it would have allowed some new slave-states.
