Yes.
Henry VIII virtually banned it and created the Anglican Church in its place.
Thank you, I didn't know that?
But you don't give us any information regarding the break as to why or wherefore? What were the instruments of separation,? Was it Henry himself who broke away, Parliament or Convocation? Just when did this happen? When Henry's son and his elder daughter were on the throne, the English Church was in communion with Rome, indeed it was for some forty years or more before the break came, why was that?
Or could it be that you just don't know!
No, however, the church in England was Catholic up until the protestant revolt in the sixteenth century when the Church of England was created.
Henry VIII wanted to break with Rome, but not the Catholic religion. The Church in England, at least during Henry's reign, remained Catholic in theology and liturgy. After the break and until Henry's death, the Protestant religion was still illegal in England.
Different Christians had different interpretations of the Bible, and split up. One major split was of the Church of England from the Roman Catholic church. Other churches have sprung up since then.
someone needs to answer this question correctly so that when people look this up, they have the answer in front of u. (iloveyouandrew)
Actually, the Lutheran Church did not technically "break off" from the Catholic Church. The Lutheran Church was made up out of whole cloth by the princes of northern Germany in 1517, I believe.
Personally, I think his chief adviser on this issue was Satan. Up until then he had been a defender of the Catholic faith. It was only when he wouldn't listen to lawful authority and decided that he knew best what he needed (which sounds like everyone of us when we decide to sin instead of following God) that he sought a way to break the Church in England away from the Catholic Church.
He would not leave the Catholic Church to convert to the Church of England
From the foundation of England up to Henry VIII, all monarchs of England were catholic. After Henry VIII only his daughter Mary was a catholic Queen all the rest have been Church of England protestants.
There is no "Roman" Catholic Church, the Roman was added as a slur against the Catholic Church in England after the protestant revolt. Why anyone would think breaking with the Church would be a good thing is a very puzzling matter, most of them were so enamored of their personal sin that they made up a Church that accepted them as they were, so that they didn't have to change their behavior as the Christian Church as always preached.
The Roman Catholic Church to head up his own church today known as the Anglican Church or more commonly: The Church of England.
Catholic AnswerElizabeth was brought up outside the Catholic Church in Henry VIII's newly formed Anglican Church. She was a strong supporter of the Anglican Church as the Catholic Church never recognized her mother as a wife of Henry and so she, Elizabeth, as illegitimate, could not legally sit on the throne of England.
You need to read up on Henry the Eighth. In very simplistic terms, he created the Anglican church as a replacement to the Catholic Church, on the pretext that he wanted a divorce from his wife Catherine, whereas the Catholic Pope denied the request.
