Some of it, but not all. Present-day California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, as well as parts of Wyoming, Colorado, Oklahoma and Kansas used to belong to Mexico, until the Mexican-American War (1846-1848).

Mexico "owned" Texas for about 15 years (1821-1836) and California for about 27 years (1821-1848). Before 1821 there was no Mexico, it was part of the Spanish colony of New Spain.

Yes, Spain had claimed Texas before America became settled. We later had the Alamo battle after we separated from Britain, which led to the owning of Texas by America.
