The main difference is how they ended. The French got their way and were a free people; no royalty needed. The Americans also got their way, but at the end of their revolution came the treaty of Paris. Another big difference is military warfare. The french had helped the Americans with nearly 90% of their gunpowder, and had supported a Navy (without the French supporting them, the Americans wouldn't have had a Navy). The French nearly crippled themselves financially helping the Americans.
Because the Patriots could not field a Navy against the Royal Navy. They did not own a ship and the UK controlled the Atlantic Ocean.
The French navy came to the aid of the Americans at the Battle of Yorktown.
Yes. They defeated the most powerful navy in the World. But how? The United States has the really powerful heart. They defeated the British navy by the end of the American Revolutionary War.
Both France and Spain provided aid to the Americans during the Revolutionary War. The French provided troops, their Navy, and loans, while the Spaniards provided loans. The French were the biggest help to the Americans; when Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown in 1781, the French Navy was offshore blocking his retreat by sea, and French troops were engaged with Washington's Army on land. Both Spain and France supported the Americans in order to put pressure on their hated English rivals.

False
During the American Revolutionary War, the thirteen American colonies were handicapped in that they had no navy to compete with the powerful British navy, and the the Americans were lacking military troops. For the most part this caused George Washington and other Revolutionary generals to fight a type of guerrilla war, although not always. When Great Britain's arch rival, France agreed to help the Americans they supplied French troops and were able to assist the Americans with there own navy. Although this navy was not as powerful as that of England's, it added to the delivery of supplies and caused the English navy to now have an additional enemy to keep an eye on. In the end, at the Battle of Yorktown, Washington's forces were helped by having French troops with him. In addition, the French navy sealed off any rescue attempts by the British navy that was headed to Yorktown to rescue British troops stranded on the Yorktown peninsula. The result was a British surrender which led to the British decision to give up its war on retaining the American colonies.
