The North.
But the South had managed to cream-off some of the best of them.
North- More troops Better equipped and supplied South- Knew the land better Had better generals
The South had more experienced generals, especially in cavalry, in the early stage of the war.
It the Civil War in the United States, the south had 2 advantages. First, the south did not need to win. It only needed not to lose. Second, the south did not need to attack, it only needed to defend.
North Korea is bigger and has more troops than South Korea but South Korea has a lot of very well trained soldiers and has more advanced technologies and high-tech weapons than North Korea! The answer is yes, South Korea is stronger than North Korea!
There were many generals in the war.. the major general for the south was Robert E. Lee... for the north there was Ambrose Burnside, ulysees sGrant... Hooker... Mclellen... "old brains"... meade... and a few more as well
The easiest anwser is that the North had technology, shear number of troops, and industry on their side. The South had much better generals, a more willingness to fight, and that the war was fought in their back yard
The North had a greater population and more industry as well as better weapons the south however had more knowledge of the land due to the fact that more battles were fought in the south, better generals, and also the south were fighting for their way of life. note: the last reason isn't necessarily a military reason so much as it is more speculation that they had more drive because of it.
PLEASE DO NOT COPY AND PASTE THIS INTO YOUR REPORT IF YOUR DOING ONE.THAT IS PLAYDARISM..JUST CHANGE IT AROUND AND PUT IT IN UR OWN WORDS. Economic The North had more money than the South, and this enabled the North to buy more guns, supplies, and equipment for the war. Also, the South's main trader was with the North, and so they were unable to make more money through selling to the North during the Civil War. Social The North had many more soldiers than the South, and a higher general population so more people could support the war. Diplomatic The South tried to gain support from Europe, although this failed because Europe did not want to be associated with slavery. Other than that, there weren't many diplomatic strides on either side. Political President Lincoln's main cause for fighting the war was to preserve the union, not to abolish slavery. He claimed that all slaves in confederate states were free in theEmancipation Proclamation. This encouraged more slaves to join the North and aid in their victory. Military The South had better trained Generals, including Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. Because of these generals, the war lasted many more years than expected. These generals ensured that the South never lost a battle until the battle of Gettysburg, where general Pickett from the South did a charge which caused many fatalities on the Southern side. Also, general Chamberlain from the North defended Little Round Top, performing many tactical actions which ensured that the Northern line did not break.
The north had more of the inexperienced generals during the civil war. Most people would say that the south had many of the better, more experienced generals such as Sir. Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Jeb Stewart. The north had many Generals but the three main most well known were... Gen. George Meade, Gen. Hancock and Gen. Ulysses S Grant. Ulysses S Grant was the head general. Other are William T. Sherman,George H. Thomas, Gordon Granger, & George G. Meade, Geoge McClallen was also one of the major generals of the war.
The North by far. The North took the Industrial road while the South took the agricultural road. At the time more countries wanted industry rather than plants, so the north had a lot more importing and exporting going on. Which gave them the advantage of technology. Their only downfall was getting that technology to all of their soldiers. This was not possible. The south on the other hand had less soldiers and could then equip them with better technology. The south also had many major US generals for that time period. IF the north had had the generals that the south had, the war would have ended much quicker.
Although the Union forces had some fine commanders, it is generally conceded the Confederacy had the most talent among its general officers. This is often overlooked because the Union was victorious in the war and most importantly, many Union generals appeared better than they were due to the fact that in most battles the Union had a larger army.
The North was more industrialized while the South was agrarian.
