Big destroyers (Fletchers, etc.) fought in the Pacific; accompanying older destroyers (Wickes/Clemson class), etc. were the small Destroyer Escorts (less guns, less sailors, smaller size).

Saipan is an island in the Marianas Island Chain. It is on the eastern edge of the Philippine Sea. Saipan was a major battleground during the Pacific Campaign in WW11.

WW11 helped us get out of The Great Depression because it created jobs. Most of the men when off to fight in the war, making some source of money.
