Thomas Palaima repeats his answer in simpler form. No..
I asked - via email - Mr. Palaima whether or not he'd served in the military - a question that needed to be answered based on his Op-Ed regarding the war in Iraq (Austin American-Statesman 01/31/08). His response: "I did not serve in the military. After I entered college in September, 1969, I acquired in December draft number 68, and that was the last year that student deferment was extended for all four years. When I graduated in 1973 the draft had been eliminated." He then explained the history of the draft to me. Mike Boston Captain, USN (retired) Lakeway, Texas
