Women were treated in Sparta very well compared to its neighboring sisters of Athens. They allowed much more freedom and dominated society even when men were at war.

As Greeks, their cultures were very similar. Their alliance was for self interest - Sparta aided Athens, and Athens reciprocated.

The Athens society was far better than that of Sparta since Athens was more intellectual and wanted to learn and develop; they were not just focused on war. Sparta was much more practical and learning how to fight was any Spartan's top priority. Athens developed the democracy as well.
