Competition is one or more people striving for the same goal--being the person who sells the most shoes, or runs the fastest in the race, or scores the highest in the test. Everyone wants to see the same thing happen--shoes getting sold, fast running or high scoring.

But in a conflict the desired result of one person is actually incompatible with the desired result of another. If one succeeds, the result is contrary to the desires of the other. For example, my friends and I may want our country to be run by its people where the government of the US may want it to be governed from Washington. The result I want is incompatible with the result desired by the US government.

Conflict involves disagreement or opposition between individuals or groups with incompatible goals or interests, often leading to hostility or fighting. Competition, on the other hand, involves individuals or groups striving towards a goal or reward that is limited in supply, but does not necessarily involve hostility or opposition._manifesting_similarity_BothConflict and competition can arise from differences in interests, goals, or resources, but the key distinction lies in the nature of the interaction and the end goal.
