MPFI stands for Multi Port Fuel Injection and uses fuel injectors. each cylinder gets its own injector which administors a measured amount of fuel to each cylinder during the intake stroke. this is a very efficent fuel delivery system.

Carburrators use vaccume created by the intake to syphon gas into the engine. this is the most basic of fuel delivery methods but with proper tuneing can also be an effective fuel delivery system.

on the average MPFI will outperform Carb style systems altho Carbs have been used for years for hi performance applicatons.

Mpfi Systems can either be : a) 'Sequential' i.e direct injection into individual cylinders against their suction strokes, or b) 'Simultaneous' i.e together for all the four or whatever the number of cylinders, or c) 'Group' i.e into Cylinder-Pairs.
