What I did on my 1995 Explorer was :
enter the factory 5 digit code on the keypad ( not my personal code )
Within 5 seconds press and hold the 7/8 button
within 5 more seconds , press and release the 3/4 button
Then release the 7/8 button
The autolock feature will lock all the doors once the Explorer is in gear and the brake pedal is released
It locks all the doors when you shift the transmission into gear and release the brake pedal

To the best of all of the information I can find, there is no way currently to disable that particular safety feature.

the 98 tc manual says: 1. turn ignition on 2. press door unlock 3 times 3. turn ignition off 4. press unlock 3 times 5. turn ignition on. doors should lock and unlock 6. with ignition still on press unlock. If horn chirps you have toggled autolock feature.
