it is the easiest and fastest way to get email from one place to another Once you transmit your mail to the SMTP server, it will be sending it out. If some failures occur, it will be trying again and again. Since the real SMTP server is constantly connected to the internet, it can try re-sending its failures at any time. As a result, you do not have to worry about failed recipients. If you send direct, you will have to re-send to the temporarily failed recipients several times over to make sure that all the addresses are covered.

Not this is the only reason,there are numerious adventages of SMTP Server which comes as a free component along with windows.simple it is server which was was developed by micrsoft for the purpose of sending mails,managing mail queue's e.t.c.fine if you have organisation where your outgoing mail has value,then you will prefer SMTP otherwise you can use what ever you want,because i don't want to be Religious about Technologies..anyway fact is the i like the way Micrsoft put things..
