No, carbohydrates are for "quick energy", but this does not mean that it contains the most energy. Lipids (fats) will contain the most energy by far, about twice the energy per gram than carbs or proteins. Lipids are used as "stored energy", so it makes sense that the most energy per allowed space should be locked up. However, excessive amounts of consumed energy (through food) will still cause the build-up of fat.

Fat, protein and carbohydrates all contribute energy and important nutrients to your diet. Making healthy choices from each of these food categories helps you optimize your health while reducing your risk for certain diseases. Unsaturated fats, for example, are preferred over saturated and trans fats, which can increase cholesterol and Heart disease risk. The energy content of fat, protein and carbohydrates is another important consideration when you're planning a healthy diet.Technically, although fat is the most calorie dense of the macronutrients, calories from both fat and carbohydrates are the primary sources of energy for exercise and everyday activities. Circulating glucose -- a broken-down form of carbohydrates -- provides immediate energy, as can circulating fat. However, certain tissues and organs, such as the brain, are unable to break down fat and require glucose for energy. Fat also takes longer to digest, making carbohydrates the most immediate source of energy. Not only does fat contribute the most calories per gram; it also makes up the bulk of your energy reserve. In a 154-lb. person, for example, approximately 80,000 calories can be stored as fat, according to Iowa State University Extension. Fat is stored in fatty tissue in the form of triglycerides, which are released when your body needs energy for everyday activities, low-intensity exercise and endurance workouts.

Your body needs fat for the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients such as vitamins A, D, E and K. Fat also serves as a buffer between muscles and around organs. The recommended fat intake is 20 to 35 percent of overall calories. While dietary fat gets converted to body fat, so do carbohydrates and protein. Carbohydrate reserves are stored as glycogen in your liver and skeletal muscles first, but carbs in excess of your glycogen capacity get stored as body fat. Excess calories from protein can also be converted to fat.
