Musilms dont NEED to learn it off by heart,but it is still importent,yet the muslims need to know the meaning and know about it,and should be able to atleaste read it by looking,i don't see the point of learning the 'Surahs' off by heart,only what is to be performed in Namaz(Prayer!)-My opinion,I am also going to be muslim :)

Well, to begin with, the first thing a new born baby hears in it's life is part of the Qur'an. During the birth, a family member will recite the selected part over and over again. Muslim children have to memorise certain parts of the Qur'an as it is recited 5 times a day, some Muslims even learn Arabic! Someone who has memorised the whole Qur'an is known as a Hafiz Most Qur'ans are hand written entirely in caligraphy and decorated with colourful mosaic/geometric designs The Qur'an is never set on the floor. How many people have memorized the quran?
As many times as they want or need! The Quran gives answers to all problems that humanity has. So if someone has a problem, he may use the Quran to find an answer to it. Muslims recite the Quran as a form of prayer. In the daily 5 times prayer, it is obligatory to recite verses from the Quran. Also, Muslims recite the Quran to increase their rewards from Allah. Reciting even a single letter of the Quran carries 10 rewards, which will be added to the person's record of good deeds. On the day Judgment, we shall all be judged according to our deeds. If our good deeds are more than the bad ones, we will go to the paradise, per God will and mercy. If the bad deeds are more than the good ones, we will be pushed to Hell, unless God grants us His Mercy and forgives us and accepts us in His paradise. So every single good deed counts. And reciting the Quran is the simplest way to increase the number of good deeds! Those who memorize the Quran have great great rewards that we cannot even dream of. Moreover, the recitation of the Quran gives a unique form of peace. It is a wonderful emotional experience. So whenever Muslims want some inner peace , they use the Quran. Don't know off the top of my head re E133 (E-numbers are EU-registered flavourings etc), but even if it's halal... as Muslims we should focus also on wholesome (Quran ALWAYS mentions 'AND tayyeb (wholesome)' after 'halal'
