They actually do. Pythons, like that of the Burmese python or African Rock Python, have been set loose into the Florida everglades and spread into Alabama and Louisiana as a result of pet owners. Unfortunately, pythons are not native to the Everglades nor the swamps but because the climate there is perfect for snakes, they were and are able to not only survive but thrive. With plenty of food available and shelter to crawl into they are able to propagate their species and grow to quite a large size, thus making it capable of hunting down and eating (or at least trying to) an alligator and other animals native to the swamps of Southeastern USA. Nat Geo has a real good program on this and is worth watching. They predict that the snake could spread across the country to CA and they have all ready spread to the outer islands off the FL coast by following the roads.
