YES, both tires must be the same size on the same axle, be it posi-trac or non posi-trac. Never, ever, mix sizes on any axle.
Raise the rear tires off ground. Spin 1 tire while watching other rear wheel, if both rear wheels spin in the same direction it is a posi-trac rear.
if it spins both back tires on the highway yes if not its a limited slip. or if on a hoist in neutral turn the driveshaft both tires will turn same direction
I assume you mean posi-trac rear end. Raise both drive wheels off the ground. Turn one wheel and if the other wheel travels in the same direction it is posi-trac.
First off you should not install tires that are not the correct size. But if you do, make sure the tires on each axle are both the same size. Both front tires same size, and both rear tires same size.
Yes, IF the same size on each side of axle. ie, both front the same, both rear the same but front/rear can be slightly different.
More than likely it does, to check, jack the back of the car up and put the car in neutral and spin a rear tire by hand and if both wheels spin in the same direction you have a posi.
yes. both front must be exactly the same though and the same goes for the rear pair.
A posi was an option so unless it was ordered it will be an open differential, raise the back of the car off the ground, put in neutral and spin one rear wheel forward and if the other one spins also in the same direction at the same time it's a posi rearend.
DIRECTIONAL tires stay on the same side of the vehicle Front to rear , rear to front
One thing that will tell you that is non involved is to jack up the rear end and rotate one of the wheels, if the other rotates in the reverse direction it is normal limited slip, if it rotates in the same direction it is posi.
the rear end cover will have a tag on one of the bolts,if it was removed already, you cat jackup from center or rear, letting the tires be off the ground. be sure to chock the front wheels be for you jackup rear. place the transmission in nutral, and release parking brake, turn one rear wheel byhand, and watch the oppicate side,if both wheels turn in same direction, you have a posi trac rear end. if one wheel turns opposite direction you do not. , .
Not unless they are all worn out. You can replace just two tires. I recommend you replace both front or both rear tires at the same time. Also make sure that all 4 tires are the exact same size. If the tires are fairly new and not worn you can replace just one tire if one was damaged as long as the size is the same.
