The previously posted answer to this question was as single word, "yes." This is incomplete, and for the most part incorrect. Referring to: http://www.pediatriccareonline.org/pco/ub/view/Pediatric-Drug-Lookup/153929/0/Normal_Heart_Rates It shows where childrens' heart rates decrease over time, except for the first two or so months of life. A newborn will, normally, have a heart rate ranging from 100 to 160, and averaging 123 beats per minute (bpm). The normal range for the adult heart rate is 60-100 bpm. Different sources will cite different numbers, but by and large, they are in the range of 100-160 for newborns. The 60-100 BPM for adults is a widely used range throughout the United States. Bear in mind, some athletes and people with small frames (thus lower metabolic needs) can have lower heart rates and still be very healthy.

Maximum heart rate starts at 220 and decreases on average by 1 for each year old. As for the actual heart rate, theoretically, it follows the decrease of the maximum heart rate, but it depends a lot on life style and genetics.
