From another contributor: If you do buy one you'll have to ferret-proof a room (or your whole house) for them to run around in and get exercise every day. I've never owned a chinchilla, but i knew someone who did and she was bored with them. You'll NEVER get bored with a ferret. So maybe somebody out there thinks chinchillas are better and that's okay.
