Our little Dekay's snake curled up and died today. Very sad. He was the easiest, most wonderful little guy and we'll miss him terribly. I just came looking for answers to see if snakes curl up when they die too and I found your question. It was really, really hot today (about 98 degree heat wave) and he normally stretches out long to stay cool. So it was interesting that he was all curled up beside his dish of water. I think he knew he was going into a sound sleep and was going to pass on - because he usually goes into hiding when he curls up to sleep. But today, he was right out in the open.
to reduce heat loss
Snakes curl up when they are sleeping and resting. Snakes may also begin to curl before an attack. It is best to stay away from a snake if you are not sure what the behavior is.
yes. they will curl up in a circle in their hotspot or in their little log or in their water. it depends on the snake.
If you want the ball to curl shoot it from the right/left
no actually there one of the most docile snakes in the world they make great pets and rarely bite. wen there scared they just curl up in a ball, hence the name.
They curl themselves up in order to stay warm.
Most snakes curl up when they sleep, but not all snakes. Some snakes are arboreal, which means they live in trees. They curl up on a branch to go to sleep. Most other snakes, such as ball pythons, king snakes, and rat snakes seem to like a hiding place when they rest and you will often find them curled up under a rock or log or other out of the way place. However, there are certain very large snakes (think anacondas or Burmese pythons) that just seem to lay straight out in a line. Although I am not certain, I think you would find that these snakes don't have many natural predators so they don't need to hide themselves. Even these huge snakes will try to go to an out of the way place after they have eaten a huge meal, since they are vulnerable for a couple of days right after they have eaten.
They can ! At least many of my snakes can anyway - you'd be surprised where they can get under, into and around !
