A mother will eat some of her babies if they are too weak or if she feels threatened. It is best not to mess with the hamster cage (not even to clean, you may feed ) while the babies are younger than 4 weeks old.
if you have a pregnant female and she has babies she will not eat them unless you have touched them in the first two weeks of them being born if she has too many or if she is a young hamster.
absolutely NOT, if that were the case, there would not be any hamsters in existence!
Know it will just take it some were were it's safe and come for the rest
no, they'd die out if they always ate their babies.
if you touch the newborn babies, they will eat them. so.DON'T TOUCH!
No! Why would you ask that? Whoever wants to know this question is stupid dumb and a freak!
YES, but don't touch these babies for 1 week and she wont eat it also sepreate the dad from the babies for not to eat them take care,,
only if you touch the babies
It is very important that you do not touch the baby hamsters because then the mother will smell human on them, and she will eat the babies. What you need to do is transfer the babies with a plastic spoon or something to another location. The mother will eat her babies. So you want to keep them separate. After the babies are removed, clean the cage as usual.
No, usually the mother will eat her babies because she takes care of them.
No because the mother hamster is taking the baby hamsters to a safer place.
are your hamsters currently on their mother? hamsters repreduce milk and so maybe your hamsters are just drinking her milk. from kennedyage 11
Isolate the pregnant female from other hamsters, pets, people, and other distractions. Mother hamsters usually eat their babies because they feel threatened and cannot protect them. Male hamsters may eat babies, especially not their blood kin, as a way to ensure their own security. Never handle the mother or babies until the young are several days old and the mother feels comfortable in taking care of them.
If you touch a hamsters babies before you are allowed to, (2-3 weeks usually) the mother will eat it.
Usually the mother of the hamsters wouldn't let them near their babies...
1 risk is that the mother might eat her babies because she might not have enough calcium in her body, so she would eat her babies.
it means that the hamster was either stressed by noise, or someone touched the babies, and the mother could not recognise their scent
If she does have babies, take the male out so she WON'T eat them. She may get stressed. Also, don't get the baby hamsters out of the cage. They will probably die, and if you put them back in the cage, the mother hamster may eat them. Just watch the baby hamsters and the mother hamster. Hope this helped. DON'T TAKE THE BABIES OUT OF THE CAGE!!!!! With out the mom the babies will die. And if you put the babies back before they die she will eat them. Besure to take the male out yhe cage. If she feels like here babies are indangered she will eat them.good luck.
Hamsters do eat their babies, only because they are scared in the envirement they are in. Hamsters are very safe when it occures to a new born , they will think the envirement is not safe, and will eat their babies so thy don't have to suffer in aything. Your WelcomeANSWER: YES, THEY DO EAT THEIR BABIES because the parents eat them for protein or meat not so sure about the last one though.but its so sad
