Do parents have the right to kick their 17-year-old child out of the house if the child is not violent or destructive and goes to school every day but drinks alcohol only on the weekends with friends?

Well, it depends where you're living. They very well can kick you out, if you're considered an adult now. My advice: Just quit drinking, is it really worth it? =/ ANSWER would you rather they have you arrested? Underage (under the age of 21) drinking is a crime in every state. You are living under your parent's roof and they look after you so show them some respect. You may think they're just bossing you around, but they care and they are worried you'll get yourself into more trouble than you can handle. Do you realize there is Date Rape Drugs out there? Do you care? If you are as smart as I think you are then you'll listen to your parents. Also, even if you aren't drinking or driving my bet is you have been with someone that has been under the influence while driving and there are usually no second chances if you should get into an car accident over something as stupid as booze! Think girl! When you can move out and support yourself then you can do as you please. Here's something to sink your teeth into. I had twin cousins (girls) that just graduated and that night (although they hadn't had much to drink) not only did they hop in the front seat beside and intoxicated driver, but 4 other grads got into the same Cherokee and off they went speeding up the highway. One of my cousins told the driver to slow down, he wouldn't, she tried to take the keys out of the ignition, he got mad at her and swerved the vehicle and they hit the meridian and flipped the vehicle throwing one of my cousins 40 feet up the road. Her sister held her twin sister in her arms while she lay dying and died in her arms. The living sister has never been the same since and never will be. All of the other teens in the vehicle had lacerations and bruises, but the driver of that vehicle has never forgiven himself and he can't go back and fix things now can he? I have a male friend that decided it was a bright idea because he was sopping drunk to get into the vehicle with his cousin who was drunk and they went around a curve so fast they landed high up in a tree. The vehicle kept sliding down until it fell straight to the ground. The cousin was bruised and battered, but my male friend had massive brain damage and was in a coma for 5 months. The bunch of us took turns going up to the hospital to constantly talk to him, play his favorite music (he was in a band) and when he did come out of his coma he didn't remember any of us and still doesn't to this day. He won't live long and is on massive medications with many other problems re the accident. He is living with his parents and got a large settlement from the accident, but what good is all that money when he doesn't remember his parents, friends and his life is dreary and full of medications, pain and he can't remember what a normal life is and his life is shortened by 40 - 50 years! If you think this can't happen to you then think again! You are not infallible and besides, what if you end up like my cousin and end up holding a dear friend in your arms while they are dying and you remain helpless. Think about it girl!
