I'm not a mechanic / technician but I would say ( no )
According to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera )
the 2.0 liter four cylinder engine in a 1995 Ford Contour ( IS NOT AN
INTERFERENCE ENGINE )
Usually if the timing belt breaks you have to replace the head or the bent valves. Sometimes the damage can be much worse and the entire engine can be wiped out. When the timing belt breaks, your cams and valves stop moving but the pistons don't. The pistons will smash against the stopped valves and bent them and on some occasions can break pistons as well.
Yes, I blew a timing belt and have several bent valves, and corresponding nicks on the pistons to confirm it
When you attempt the start the engine it will not start and will more than likely damage the valves and or pistons.
Yes, the 3 liter v-6 is. I blew a timing belt and had several bent valves and corresponding nicks on the pistons to confirm it
It is an interference engine, timing belt breaks during engine operation and the valves are going to hit the pistons.
Yes, the valves can bend, or even damage or crack the piston. Reason is: when the cam stops rotating due to the broken timing belt the valves no longer go up and down but remain in one position (either up or down), but the crankshaft-driven pistons keep moving up and down, making hard contact with the valves, and thus the damage.
The 2.5 litre V6 engine in a 1995 Ford Contour doesn't have a timing belt , it uses ( 2 ) timing CHAINS
Yes
your local library may have a free shop manual to peek at.. good luck Dave
I'm assuming petrol. Last one l did had snapped valves which needed to be replaced. There were also scrapes on the top of the pistons but that was ok as piston crowns hit dropped valves. Used the original head but l had it crack tested to make sure there was no more damage to it.
Timing marks are used to set the ignition, so that the spark plugs spark when the pistons are at the right position and moving in the right direction. The timing marks for your 1995 VW can be found on the front of the main pulley. The timing marks will be scattered around the outside of the main pulley.
No , it's a non-interference engine , according to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etc . )
