Yes, but this should be a reverential fear, Ecclesiasties 12:13 tells us that the whole obligation of man is to fear the true God and obey his commands.

==========

I would translate "fear" in this case to mean to so love and reverence Him that we fear doing anything wrong in His sight, whatever may be the opinions of or pressure from others. We need to be more afraid of disappointing God and causing him sadness by anything that he has warned us will move us away from him and his blessings and bring us unhappiness than we are of what others may think of us. Of course we should also be afraid of reaping the consequences of our misdeeds; sometimes the consequences come in the form of chastisement from deity.

It's a bit like being afraid to disappoint our parents by doing something that we should be ashamed of. Yeah- we might be afraid of what they will do when they find out, but if we really love and trust our parents and believe they have our best interests at heart will will be more afraid of the sad, hurt look in their eyes than of any punishment they may mete out.

As a personal opinion, I think of God as imaginary, but I know of many who do fear him.
