Answer 1 (Christianity Perspective)The answer would be that we have all sinned and are therefore sentenced to death, we were sinners before we were even born because the sin was passed down through our birth from the original sinners Adam and Eve. The only way to not go to hell when you die is to admit you are a sinner and thereby separated from God forever, believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and He died for our sins so that they could be forgiven and we could spend eternity in heaven with Him, repent (or turn away) from your sins and ask God's forgiveness for them, and accept Jesus Christ into your heart and take Him as your personal Lord and Savior. If you do this wholeheartedly you will go to heaven when you die and even if you commit a sin after you have been saved (prayed the prayer above) you will still go to heaven. you should repent from future sins as they occur but you can never lose your salvation so if you die before you have time to repent of the sins you commit after your salvation experience you will still go to heaven. Jesus blood covers all sins past present and future so there is no need to live in fear as long as you have accepted Him as your Lord and Savior. Answer 2 (Islam Perspective)Going to Hell or Paradise is based on your net deeds if good you will go by God mercy to the Paradise (or the Heavens) if not you will pushed to Hell fire; either permanently or temporarily. However, God is All-Merciful and All-Forgivable. If one commits a sin, then he/she recognizes that he/she is sinful, repents to God, and intends not to commit the sin again, then God per His will would forgive you and your sin is deleted from your record. Allah (or God in English and same God worshiped in Christianity and Judaism) forgive all sins except the sin of worshiping a partner to God. You should worship God as the one and only one God with no partner, no son, no father, no companion, no associate, and no equivalence.

Qur'an says (meaning English translation):

" And it is He who accepts repentance from his servants and pardons misdeeds, and He knows what you do." (42:25)

and says:

" But those who committed misdeeds (or sins) and then repented after them and believed - indeed your Lord (Allah or God), thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful." (7:153)

Answer 3 (Judaism perspective)

Jewish tradition states that there is punishment after death for those who deserve it (Talmud, Rosh Hashanah 17a). This has two major limitations, however. One is that repentance is very important in God's eyes. It has a great effect and, if sufficient, can erase the sin altogether. The other limitation is that what the Question calls going to hell can be for any length of time - even for a few seconds or minutes in some cases.

What is the power of sin and what is the penalty of sin?

The penalty of sin is the memory of sin. but if you havent accepted the Lord into yoru heart then you will go to hell whether you sin or not, if you have accepted the Lord and you ARE Christian then you can go to heaven. but that doesnt mean that you can accept the lord and sin all the time. If you sin all the time then do you think that the Lord will be happy? (answer that yoruself) there isn't a "power" to sin PERSE. but i think that the power of sin will be sending you to hell or upseting God.
