The bulb can be acessed behind the headlight in the center of the reflector, remove socket and pull out bulb and replace with new one.Do not touch bulb with fingers, oil from hands will shorten bulb life.
You Have a bad headlight, it's common when a headlight burns out for only the high beam to work, solution change your headlight.
I think your valve cover gasket may be letting oil leak out onto the hot engine. It then "burns" off releasing the smoke you refer to. If you replace the valve cover gasket it should correct the problem.
I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo LSE 3.2L 6-cyl. I have been using Rotella Synthetic 5w-40 oil for quite some time now. Burns a lot less then any other oils I tried. I was using the recommended oil but was burning it up so fast had to replace or add more every other week. Now with the Rotella I haven't added any in over 3 months and it still looks very clean whenever I check it. Hope this helps because it's been working for me. :-)
No, the headlight bulb will just not turn on. The check engine light only comes on when there is a problem with the ENGINE, not the BULB.

I took it to the dealer and it cost about $250-$300 to get it fixed. From what I understand, they last a really long time....? (my first change out was three months ago and I bought a VW new in '05).
Something that burns or is flammable would be a chemical change.
When sugar burns, it creates a new substance. It's not possible that it's a physical change. So, it's a chemical change !
