If you take the motor mounts loose and jack the engine up high enough it might be possible to get the pan off and the pump out without taking the motor completely out.
Pull the motor out of the car and change it.
Maybe what motor in the z28? 5.0 or 5.7 ? either way u should have to torque to pull ahead of the v6
No you do not , But it's one hell of a job to get off.
Pull the motor or pull the transmission, one of them has to come out.

take out the halfshafts pull the motor and unbolt the tranny
