Sorry, that is incorrect. There is no national registration of firearms in the U.S. and only a handful of states require registration. Texas is not one of those.

Not for ownership or possession of guns, but to CARRY them in public when you're not hunting or target shooting at a range, then yes, you need a permit.

The permit identifies both you and the kind of guns you're allowed to carry.

By the way, the federal government has had a form of gun registration for all guns sold by gun dealers (holders of a Federal Firearms License, or FFL). Those forms are not computerized in a database, but the gun dealer holds on to them and eventually they get sent to the feds for permanent storage.
